WEB 2.0

"Web 2.0" refers to the second generation of web development and web design. It is characterized as facilitating communication, information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. It has led to the development and evolution of web-based communities, hosted services, and web applications. Examples include social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, mashups and folksonomies.
How do Web 2.0 tools fit into the picture? Web 2.0 tools offer a buffet for students to collaborate globally, without the confounds of bricks and mortar. Collaborative tools such as Wikis, blogs, google docs etc. allow students the ability to connect with peers and to work collaboratively with peers without being in the same room, school or state. Educators can provide feedback on student assignments as well as elicit student participation by using texting or voice threads.
